"Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me." Psalm 31:3
It is crucial that we reflect on our interactions with our neighbors, on how we conduct ourselves in today's society, and on the importance we give to God's presence in all of this.
Many times in our daily routine, we can observe how we move forward as part of a flock that desperately wants to advance towards the plate of food that its owner serves every day. But do we ever stop to evaluate and contemplate our current surroundings? The fast-paced rhythm of our lives is not healthy, it constantly invites us to live in an acceleration that does not promise a good outcome. This often leads to a blindness that does not allow us to see what is happening around us, the things that truly matter and deserve our attention.
"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love." 2 Peter 1:5-7
In some circumstances, we encounter individuals who have had bad luck, who are living the result of a life they may not have imagined or planned for. This is where we must remember the example Jesus gave us on the Cross, and be inspired to help those in need.
As long as we do not focus on those people who need help the most, we will not be able to complete the mission that the Lord has bestowed upon us. If we ask ourselves "how can I help?", we will realize that even a simple gesture, such as a smile or a kind word, can make a difference.
In these situations, it is important to turn to the word of God, as only He truly understands the human being and always has an answer for everything.
"and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22
When meditating on this matter, we realize that we have lost sight of the real objective for which we live, and that our values have been gradually changed by various factors that make us worry more about achieving our own objectives, than about what happens to the brother next to us. Such behaviors are not worthy of a child of God, and what they achieve is to generate negative feelings such as arrogance and greed.
Let us remember then how God helped us when we were in need, how He extended his healing hand and opened his heart to shelter us. In moments of doubt, we should ask ourselves: What would God do in this case?
